All the neighbours are absolutely charmed when in July is celebrated the Carmen Festival with the Virgin of the sailors, the celebration is all around the village.

A row of grills goes up Capitán Mendizabal street to cook the traditional sardines, this fact starts the festival. Happiness, that is floating in the air of Santurtzi for ten days, is still stronger when on July the 16th The Virgin goes to the sea surrounded by lots of ships in order to offer to the sea some flowers as a homage for those sailors that lost their lifes in The cantabric Waters.

But the party calendar begins before, on April the 23rd with the oldest celebration, The Saint George,s day. The famous Cornites day, the first Monday in Passover, that consists on climbing the Serantes mountain to finally eat the traditional cornites food: bread with an egg and smoked season pork sausage. To end the season after some celebrations in the different districts, have an special importance the festival in Mamariga, in September.

As a sum, Santurtzi is a village that loves celebrations as reflects its calendar with its main festival in July with "El Carmen", when the typical party huts in the port, the bars and the good concerts make a lot of people come to visit our village.
